The Venetians, the French, the English as its main conquerors influenced the island's culture as a result of the incorporation of the western culture in the Greek identity. The way of life and the multilateral mentality of the natives are to be distinguished from the classic Greek prototype. The main characteristics are: pleasure, love, happiness, admiration and most of all quest. Its unique nature combines blue and green, mountain and sea in an exceptional way. The ever-changing scenery, the sandy beaches, the enchanting sunset are the components that attract foreigners to come over and over again to Corfu. In Corfu by the word mountain they mean Pantokrator mountain. The highest mountain (914m) is in the center of the northeastern side and shapes the character of the hole region. Mainly in its slopes as well as in the coastline more than 60 settlements and villages have been erected, where about 6.000 residents live there permanently. The steep eastern slopes of Pantokrator mountain with olive groves viewing the coastline of Ipiros and Albania descend to the sea forming a series of small gulfs, small sandy or even rocky beaches, peninsulas and picturesque capes.
